The local school district is the second largest in the nation, with 640,000 students at 900 schools and 187 public charter schools. LAEC recaptures students who either got lost in the crowd, or who may have acted out in frustration and were pushed out. Time and again, our students demonstrate that, given a second chance, nothing can hold them back from achieving their their goal of a high school diploma. Once we catch our students back up so that they can obtain their high school diplomas, our goal is to support their transition on to post-secondary success. Each year we have more and more students transitioning directly on to a university after graduating from our high schools.

Colleges Our Alumni Attend

Jasmine's Story Jasmine attended Dominguez High School. She didn’t feel challenged, or that any of the teachers cared so she didn’t take school seriously. She only attended sporadically, and was eventually pushed out. Her mother found out about CBA Compton and sent her there. Jasmine wasn’t pleased.

Noticing that she’d had good grades, despite her dislike for school, Principal Abeni Carr asked Jasmine where she wanted to go to college? Jasmine hadn’t thought about it. Ms. Carr had planned a tour of 10 colleges in five days for the students and invited Jasmine. Next thing she knew, she was on a plane up north. And today, Jasmine can boast that she was accepted to four four-year universities! She attributes her success to coming to a school where the teachers cared for her and nurtured her potential. And, of course, her mom, who enrolled her in our school.
